24HP Kawasaki FR730V commercial grade twin cylinder engine.
Heavy-duty blade spindles
The blade spindles used on the AcrEase mowers are built out of heavy duty welded steel hubs, 30 mm (1-3/16") steel shafts, machined steel blade holders and large sealed ball bearings.
Crank height adjustment
The cutting height can quickly and easily be adjusted from 2"–8" with the two crank height adjustment system.
Steel Top Plate
The main deck is built out of 10 GA (.135") steel with a 3/16" top plate. An additional 1/4" plate is welded at the blade spindle mounting location—nearly 5/8" total thickness in that area.
Twin-blade deck
Unique twin blade design provides more of a mulch action that reduces the size of the clippings and reduces bunching.
Electric blade clutch
The blades are engaged with an electric clutch activated by a switch. Electric clutches can extend belt life and reduce belt maintenance.
Farm clevis tow bar
The tow bar features a farm clevis connection providing greater articulation to prevent binding in rough, uneven terrain.
Large fuel tank
Large 3-1/4 gallon fuel tank that provides 3 to 3-1/2 hours of run time.

Floatation Kit
Added deck support for uneven terrain
An extra front and back tire can be added to the center section of the mower deck.
- Great for mowing around ponds and on rough uneven ground where scalping would normally occur
- Clamping style receiver allows for adjustments from side to side with both the front and rear tires

The Wetlands Kit consists of an extra set of tires and mounting brackets.
- Great for wetlands or marshy areas that stay wet all year around

- Kit more than doubles the tire surface area in contact with the ground
- Easy to install. Works on all existing and new rough cut mowers
- The rough cut mower will not float with the wetlands kit installed; avoid water greater than 2–3″ in depth

What is an AcrEase Rough Cut Mower?
The AcrEase Rough Cut Mower is a commercial-grade, self-contained mower designed to cut tall grass and brush beyond the capabilities of a finish-cut mower.
What vehicles can tow an AcrEase Rough Cut Mower?
Common tow vehicles include ATVs and UTVs; some customers also use small tractors, pickup trucks, and SUVs.
How big of a tow vehicle is required?
Most 350 cc ATVs and larger tow the mower without issue. On steeper terrain, a larger ATV with 4-wheel drive may be necessary; some users operate with 2-wheel-drive 250 cc ATVs.
How steep of a slope can it operate on?
Many ATVs feel unstable above ~20°. If the tow vehicle stays level, the mower can work on somewhat greater slopes. Engines with splash lubrication (e.g., certain Briggs & Stratton Professional/Intek) should not be used above ~20° for extended periods. Pressure-lubed engines (e.g., Kohler, Briggs & Stratton Commercial Turf) are typically rated up to ~25°. Use caution above 20–25°.
Operation
How fast will it mow?
Speed varies by vegetation and height; ~4–10 MPH is typical. Heavier brush or rougher ground reduces speed.
Why does the deck pull slightly at an angle?
The 30″ (57″ models) and 23″ (44″ models) blades are inline and untimed. To achieve required blade overlap without timing, the deck trails at a slight angle.
How easy is switching between offset and direct-behind towing?
Under a minute: unhitch, unpin and flip the tongue, re-pin, and hitch. No tools required.
Does it use a ball hitch?
No. It uses a farm clevis (C-shaped coupler) that allows more articulation than a typical 2″ ball hitch (often limited to ~12°).
Can it be used for finish-cut work in a pinch?
Some owners use it as a dual-purpose deck. Blade style and twin-blade design can produce a respectable lawn finish when conditions are suitable.
Safety & Design
How safe is the AcrEase Rough Cut Mower?
The deck is fully enclosed with a front rubber flap, enclosed sides, and a low discharge chute. A 10″–11″ front safety zone reduces forward contact risk. AcrEase decks meet OPEI safety standards.
Why twin blades instead of a single large blade?
Twin independent blades on separate spindles improve clipping reduction and reduce bunching via blade interaction and overlap.
Why fixed blades instead of swinging hammer blades?
Swinging hammers require clean pivots and can be hard to balance, increasing vibration risk. Fixed blades are simpler to balance and provide consistent cut quality.
What happens if a rock, stump, or immovable object is struck?
The heavy deck and spindles resist bending under major impacts. A direct hit may stall the engine; blades can show dents or minor bending. Field testing hasn’t produced impacts that prevented continued mowing.
Does it use shear pins or slip clutches for protection?
Not necessary on a belt-driven, self-contained pull-behind deck. Under severe load the belt can slip, protecting the engine.
Does the deck include a stump jumper?
No. Stump jumpers are typical on tractor-mounted decks with high traction and drawbar power. ATVs/UTVs/sub-compact tractors rarely transmit forces that would damage AcrEase decks or spindles.
Capability
What size saplings will it handle reliably?
Rated up to ~2″ diameter. Larger stems can be cut, but tow-vehicle traction usually becomes the limiting factor for bending material under the deck.
What are the advantages of the four-tire design vs. two-tire decks?
Four tires let the deck float over uneven ground and remain self-supporting, enabling a free-pivoting tongue that traverses ditches where two-tire designs bind. Tires are kept within deck width, providing a trim edge on both sides for close work. Competing two-tire designs often place tires outside the deck and can match AcrEase’s overall width without delivering the same trimming advantage.
Maintenance
How long do the drive belts typically last?
With correct adjustment, manual-clutch versions commonly achieve ~75–100+ hours. Electric-clutch versions often exceed ~200 hours.
